PhD project:
Title: Does the human tendon contain fibripositor-competent progenitor/ stem cells?
Aim: To investigate collagen processing in human tendon fibroblasts in 3D-cell culture. Cell shape, the presence/ or absence of fibroblast membrane protrusions, i.e. fibripositors and the activity of fibroblasts to form cell-cell contact are of major interest and will be examined in tissue harvested from young and elderly subjects and from patients, who underwent tendon surgery 2 to 6 months prior to the experiment. A heavy exercise protocol 24 hours preceding the biopsy sampling will be used as a model to study potential cellular changes in a period when collagen synthesis is increased.
