Katja Heinemeier investigates the adaptation of tendon tissue to mechanical loading, with the prospect of understanding the events leading to overuse induced tendinopathy. A main research focus has been the potential role of stress-responsive collagen-inducing growth factors in relation to exercise/training-induced collagen synthesis in tendon tissue.
Currently her research is especially focused on determining rates of matrix protein turnover matrix-rich tissues, including human tendon and cartilage, in healthy and diseased states.
