“Predictors and targets for early diagnosis of the intra-muscular sarcopenic process.”
Clinical screening for frailty and sarcopenia includes macroscopic strength and functional measures but have the major disadvantage that it can only be diagnosed once the condition has progressed severely. Thus in order to take preventive actions and minimize the age related loss in muscle mass; a new screening method is needed.
The objectives of this project are to investigate whether we can pinpoint a single or several patterns of intramuscular factors that are associated with sarcopenia. These could be: 1) blood-borne parameter(s); 2) leg muscle mass or size; or 3) the physiological characteristics/conditions of leg strength or functional capabilities
